President's administration official calls to toughen controls over centralized testing

Controls should be strengthened over the registration for the centralized tests in Belarus, said the first deputy chief of the Office of the Belarusian President, Anatol Rubinau. He is the chairman of the government commission to oversee the preparations and the course of the entance exams to the country's universites and colleges.

According to Rubinau, over 200,000 people have registered for the centralized tests this year against 170,000 in 2006. The official said the difference came from the participation of 9th-graders who wanted to try their performance and also from coaches who use the tests as a training opportunity for their clients.

"This should be cut off", Anatol Rubinau said. During the registration for the centralized tests, would-be students will be required to present both his ID and a certificate to prove that he or she graduated from a secondary school indeed, reports Belta.
