Poltical prisoners held in cold cells in Minsk

Political detainees Anatol Lyabedzka and Artsyom Dubski who are serving administrative arrests at the Akrestsina detention center in Minsk have filed a statement to Syarhey Karpovich, the head of the Center for Corrections. “We draw your attention to the fact that it is physically impossible to stay in the cell No 12 during the night because of low temperature," they wrote in the letter.

The statement says that these circumstances violate their Constitutional right to a decent treatment an can be interpreted by the international laws as torture.

Lyabedzka and Dubski have demanded that they be provided decent conditions with an acceptable ambiance temperature inside their cell. A copy of the statement was sent to the OSCE office in Minsk, reports the web cite of the United Civic Party ucpb.org.

Around 40 opposition activists and entrepreneurs are being held in the Akrestsina prison for their part in the unauthorized protest of entrepreneurs on January 10 in Minsk.
