Police disrupt students' protest in central Minsk

Around 20 young people today at noon attempted to stage a protest action against the abolishment of social benefits at the Independence Square in front of the building of the Belarusian parliament in Minsk.
They were shortly sealed off by around two dozens of police agents, who told them to disperse. No detentions were reported.

The students later gathered near the law department of the Belarus State University and unfolded a poster, saying "No to Benefit Abolishment!" But special police agents immediately ran to them and broke the poster into pieces. Later, two action participants were detained. They are identified as Jan and Mikalai.

The plainclothes police agents also scared some tourists from a Belarusian village who were coming out of the Red Cathedral at the Independence Square. Police took them for the participants of the protest picket.

Near the Chemistry Department building of the Belarus State University, police tried to detain a girl that also took part in the action. But she escaped detention, after an unidentified man defended her by displaying his KGB Colonel ID to the police agents.
