“pARTisan” gathers Belarusian losers in one issue

Losers, outsiders, unlucky fellows and marginal persons are the heroes of the seventh issue of “pARTisan” magazine. According to the editor-in-chief Artur Klinau, we are all losers because of our passports and birthplace.

Artur Klinau: “This is the fate of our people and of our country. We got in the losers’ circle in the course of history. The Belarusian culture also did. The Belarusian culture – no matter what kind it is, be it official, unofficial, legal or illegal – is in the same losers’ circle”.

Maxim Zhbankou sets Belarusian losers off in a positive and creative colour. He noted that the magazine “pARTisan” was building up its own artistic and intellectual space. Losers are supposed to make their own steps in this space.

Maxim Zhbankou: “This is a real attempt of independent thinking in different situations. We are building up an intellectual space. Or artistic and intellectual. It is an attempt to create some problem field. If you reject our pressing and try to make your own steps on the basis of this issue, it means you are not losers. It may also mean that you are Belarusian losers – you are all-sufficient, positive and creative, you are building your own things on the remnants of imperial discourses”.

Mr. Zhbankou does not hide the fact that he may be a loser from time to time. The author of the main essay of the issue Maryika Martysevich also claims that Belarusian losers are rather good than bad.

Maryika Martysevich: "I think that this category should not be turned into a negative one. We do not see ourselves as Belarusians see Belarusians. We look at ourselves from the point of view of other nations and other people. If we focus on the Belarusian essence of the issue, losers become something natural and even positive”.

A genuine loser’s snack was prepared for guests at the presentation of the magazine – a piece of “Druzhba” melted cheese, “Onega” crisps and a bottle of “Alexandria” beer. The present also received the latest issues of “pARTisan” wrapped in newspapers that had closed down because they were losers.
