“Parents’ record” by Ales Kamotski

A new album of Ales Kamotski “From parents’ record” has become available on CD recently.  According to the singer, the album consists of 9 famous Soviet songs translated into Belarusian. As ERB found out, the author made the album for himself and its main concept was the absence of any concept.

Ales Kamotskі: “I did not insert any concept in it. I just feel like making it and I did. It just came into my mind and that was it. I’m in an awkward age at the moment – I have been doing only the things I wanted for several years. So I made what I wanted to”.

According to him, songs that he heard when he was young and that became popular with people long ago are included the album.

Ales Kamotskі: “The album is a translation of 9 songs that were popular in their time. They were popular in the Soviet time except for two Russian folk songs: “The reed murmured” and “Black Raven”. They were popular even before the Soviet time. I just wanted to create something that has been hidden in my mind for a very long time”.

However, the singer says he did not aim at any particular audience and translated the song for himself in the first place.

Ales Kamotskі: “The album is not aimed at any audience. One of the people said in a review of my books: “it seems that Kamotski writes it all for himself”. They had a right feeling; I do write it for myself. I will be very pleased if someone else gets interested in it too”.

Ales Kamostki has created many albums and collections of verses, he wrote a lot of excellent lyrics. ERB wondered why the singer started translating other songs instead of writing new ones.

Ales Kamotskі: “So, what was the past for? I am just interested whether it is possible to answer such a question: “What was the past for?”.

Ales Kamotski told ERB that the presentation of his new album would take place in the concert hall “Minsk” on June 10. On the next day after his 50th birthday.  However, according to him, the events are not related.

Ales Kamotskі: “We could recall the time when everything was dated for October holidays, for May holidays, for the 50th and the 60th anniversaries… Everything was dated for something. But I did not get used to living like this although it used to be done for many years”.

According to him, the concert will likely have the same title as the album. Besides the songs from the new album, there will be many old famous songs loved by the audience there. Ales’s friend Ryhor Baradulin will attend the concert as a guest of honour.
