Opposition once again fails to unite - no single candidate in 2015

There will be no single presidential candidate from the Belarusian opposition. The 8 months long negotiations for holding the Congress of Democratic Forces and determining the candidate ended in failure.

It happened because the United Civil Party and the Party of the Left "Fair World" refused to sign an agreement to hold the Congress. Here is what co-chairman of the organizing committee of the BCD Pavel Sevyarynets told Euroradio:

"As for the single candidate and the Congress, there is no unity regarding this issue and we witness the triumph of irresponsibility. There is no hope in today's opposition."

Holding the Congress of democratic forces and voting there for the single candidate from the five forces is considered unnecessary by Seviarynets.

Sevyarynets: "If the situation is as it is, it means that there is Lyabedzka, someone from the People's Referendum, Alena Anisim and someone else and; there will not be a single candidate. The BCD is ready to support a single candidate, but not just a good guy or someone like that -- I do not see any sense in this. Moreover, I see some harm and danger in this."

According to Pavel Sevyarynets, the only thing that was agreed on was to conduct a joint campaign for the release of Mikola Statkevich and other political prisoners. On this occasion, they will establish a joint group and choose the head of the campaign. According to the Euroradio, Pavel Sevyarynets has been suggested for this very role.
