Opposition member applies for police job

Yaraslau Bernikovich who had recently become unemployed decided to look for a job. He spotted an advert in the local newspaper Volnaye Hlybokaye advertsing a vacancy with the local police force. The opposition member decided he met all the requirements and applied for the job.

Yaraslau Bernikovich: "I collected all the necessary documents and submitted the job application. They were surprised. They talked about small wages, about Br 2 million per month (around 190 euro), said the work was mostly computer-related: filling in the databases. They also said five more people had already applied for the same position, so they couldn't promise anything particular as their chief was on vacation and they couldn't decide anything without his approval. So, they told me they would call me."

Bernikovich says the policemen know him well, since it is a small town. Now the opposition activist is waiting: they told him the police chief returns on August 8.
