Mistranslation of Ossetia conflict settlement plan
The French Minister of Foreign Affairs Bernard Kouchner has confirmed that the text of the plan of conflict settlement in South Ossetia was mistranslated from French. The head of the French Ministry of Foreign Affaires has explained that the plan of Medvedev and Sarkozy was signed in French and then translated into English and Russian. The Russian text mentions security “for South Ossetia and Abkhazia” while the English and French versions mention security “in” those republics. It turns out that the Russian version justifies “buffer zones” in Georgia.
