Minsk displays "cautious optimism" over EU statement

The authorities in Belarus have noticed a change of tone in the document passed by the meeting of foreign ministers of EU member states, Belarus's foreign ministry spokesman Andrei Papou today said in a statement.
Under the statement passed in Brussels yesterday, the European Union is prepared to revise the sanctions against the Belarusian officials and to increase aid to our country after having evaluated the results of parliamentary elections scheduled for September 28.

"We have noticed the attempt of EU countries to outline the possible directions of improving the bilateral interaction between Belarus and EU. This creates an cautious optimism. But, the European Union has failed to get rid of usual inertia in approaches towards our country", Papou noted.

Belarus's foreign ministry spokesman also stressed that Minsk is expecting concrete actions and not declarations from the European Union, reports Interfax
