Malady Front members stand trial in Salihorsk, Niazvizh

Youth activists Ivan Shyla in Salihorsk and Nasta Azarka in Niasvizh are today to appear in court on charges of acting on behalf of an unregistered organization. The both are the members of the Malady Front (Youth Front) youth pressure group.  On September 10, another youth activist Yaraslau Hryschenya will appear in a Baranavichy court on the same charges.

The human rights center Viasna (Spring) says that the trials are of clearly political nature. The young people have been persecuted for their social and political activities.

The center has urged the government to stop prosecution of public and political activists, to release political prisoners and bring the penal code in line with the Constitution of Belarus and international human rights standards, reports Charter'97.
