Mahileu entrepreneurs organize spontaneous meeting
A spontaneous meeting of entrepreneurs is taking place in the centre of Mahileu. About 500 people have gathered at the central square of the city. Representatives of the entrepreneurs’ movement are conducting negotiations with the administration of Mahileu Region Executive Committee now.
A participant of the action Syarhei Famin informed ERB about it.
“They are in the office of the Region Executive Committee now. They are conducting negotiations with the authorities. Their phones are disconnected so we do not know anything at the moment”.
According to the President’s decree, private entrepreneurs are forbidden to hire employees except for their close relatives starting from January 1. They are not allowed to have more than three employees either.
Entrepreneurs went on a republican strike on January 1. According to one of the leaders of Minsk entrepreneurs Alyaksandr Makaeu, 20 or 30% of shops at markets and shopping centres are closed in the capital.
“For example, there are 1200 shops at Zhdanovichy building market. People haven’t even paid the rent for 200 of them although we are obliged to pay the rent even when we are on strike.
Entrepreneurs may stop paying taxes including the VAT and the single tax. It will result in great losses for markets”.
