Lukashenka: There will be no reforms, bunch of politicians wants unrest

Лукашэнка: Рэформаў не будзе, купка палітыкаў хоча смуты

The fifth inauguration of Aliaksandr Lukashenka was held in the Palace of Independence for the first time. The President spoke about relations with the West, reform and color revolutions.

"We will not destroy anything"

Aliaksandr Lukashenka said several times that "previous achievements should not be destroyed." The President made it clear: expecting any reforms is too early.

"Too many today speak and write about structural reforms. But no one said what kind of reforms they are. Someone is willing to pay well for these reforms. Countries around Belarus carried out such reforms, they tried these reforms. What's wrong with the system that we have created? Suggestions can be heard from various offices. And I wonder what we did wrong. The reforms are an increase of the retirement age, a paid healthcare, paid education."

According to political scientist Aliaksandr Sinkevich, this was said to reassure the state apparatus: everything will be as usual.

"This is a message that the situation will be stable and there will not be major changes, a message to the officials telling them not to expect any cleansing or shifts."

"We are not turning anywhere"

Several times Aliaksandr Lukashenka recalled the relations with Russia and the West and asked both sides not to set Belarus against its neighbors.

"We are developing our relations with Asia, Africa and Latin America. We are open to friendship with the United States and the European Union. After hearing that we are negotiating with the United States, some people claim that "Lukashenka is turning somewhere." Seeing our relations with Russia some people in the West become agitated. Do not come between us, do not set us against Russia, do not set us against the West. We want to see the vital interests of Belarusians here. "

It's a traditional policy of balancing between the West and the East, that has not brought much fruit in the past five years, said the political analyst Valer Karbalevich:

"It was addressed to everyone, including the people of Belarus. He just said what is already being done now. After 2010, the relations with the West were spoiled, and now he will again try to restore this balance."

"A bunch of politicians wants unrest"

The head of state did not overlook and opponents whom he accused of wanting to bring confusion. And once again he brought up color revolution.

"In Belarus, there is still a handful of politicians who want to rekindle the fire of turmoil. It is noteworthy that such radicals are rejected not only by a greater part of the people, but also by those who do not agree with some of the decisions of the authorities. Supporting a color revolution is wrong."

Aliaksandr Lukashenka is at a loss before the internal and external challenges, said political analyst Valer Karbalevich:

"It is a confusion before the challenges facing the country and the economy. It would seem that there are no signs of a color revolution, the comampaign has passed very quietly. But this is an old thesis that is simply repeated."

As a result, Aliaksandr Lukashenka never said what will happen to the country in the next five years, adds the analyst.
