Philipp Erbe’s exposition “Made in Belarus” in Charleroi is dedicated to Soviet monuments and Belarusian girls, the photographer did not want to take pictures of Belarusian men (photo). The exposition “Made in Belarus” created by Philipp Erbe has opened in the biggest European fine photography museum situated in a small Belgian city – Charleroi. The museum is situated in the former Carmelite monastery Mont-sur- Marchienne. It describes the history of photography from its origin to modern trends.

Some of its halls have been allocated to the exposition dedicated to Belarus and there is a huge poster with a red-green star in front of the museum. Philipp Erbe took this picture in Minsk.

“The poetic and elegant style of his work helps us make a trip with beautiful objects, unusual monuments and wonderful, sensual women”, - the announcement about the exposition reflects its contents: this is a photo gallery full of Soviet monuments and girls. There are no men in the pictures.
“The world of men – alcohol, cars, football, young women and easy sex – does not interest me; I try to stay away from it as much as I can. I am most likely to sit next to women at bus stops, in public transport and in parks. They soothe my mind”, - explains the artist.

There are not many visitors in the museum on week days. Foreign tourists rarely reach it - they head for Brussels. The Belgians ERB met near the exposition did not even know what Belarus was.

However, it the director of the museum Xavier Canon was different. He shared his impressions of Philipp Erbe’s work:

“I envy the freedom of travelling that is Philipp Erbe’s nature, especially the freedom that gets rid of tourist maps and uses itineraries not mentioned in handbooks”.

Belgians and foreign tourists will be able to visit the exposition “Made in Belarus” within the next three days. It will be replaced by another special photo gallery after that.
