European Union cancells trade benefits for export from Belarus

The European Union has cancelled trade benefits for export from Belarus for violation of worker’s rights. The EU trade commissioner Peter Mandelson said that “Europe was paying a lot of attention to working conditions and environmental protection”.
“In this case Belarus is obviously violating the standards if the International Trade Organization”, - noted the commissioner in the appeal.

According to a representative of the EU commission, standard import duties will be applied to Belarus from now on. The duties are 3% higher that the beneficial duties. The decision will influence about 10% of Belarusian goods imported in the EU.

The European Union warned the official Minsk about this step half a year ago and demanded to improve working conditions in the country. The EU decided that is had not been done on June 15.
