Chernobyl March to protest against Russian nuclear reactor

The Party of the Belarusian Popular Front will march during the traditional Chernobyl Rally on April 26 under the slogan: "No to Russian nuclear station in Belarus!", party deputy chairman Alyaksei Yanukevich told the European Radio for Belarus. "There is an absolute consensus within the party leadership that we should not allow the first nuclear reactor in Belarus to be Russia-built", he said.

Yanukevich also noted that the Popular Front is now in the process of developing the party's position over the nuclear power plant's issue, studying both cons and pros from nuclear specialists.

The organizing committee for the 2008 Chernobyl March today approved the route from the Academy of Sciences to the Independence Square. The organizers stressed that it was the route of the very first Chernobyl rally. The application for the demonstration will be filed with the Minsk City Hall next week.
