Candidate Volha Karach forbidden to meet electors in Vitsebsk

It turned out that the place was “seized” by one of the invited candidates – the rector of Vitsebsk Technological University Officials from October District Executive Committee forbade the meeting of Volha Karach, a deputy contender running for Vitsebsk City and Region Councils, with electors.

The meeting was supposed to take place in the agitation place in Pravda Street (one of the places the authorities gave a written permission to conduct such meetings in). Karach invited her rivals there – a governmental candidate and an opposition member.

However, it turned out that the agitation place “was seized” by one of the invited candidates – the rector of Vitsebsk Technological University Valery Bashmetau. The students he had brought there organized a concert, said Volha Karach in an interview with ERB:

Karach: "When I arrived there it seemed to me that he was not planning to conduct a meeting but at the same time he did not want me to conduct it either. He refuted all variants suggested to him: he could conduct his meeting before I did, we could do it together and I could be the first. The administration of October District arrived… He just stayed there from 5 to 8 p.m. and did not say a word to his electors”.

According to Ms. Karach, her team gave the planned street theatrical performances anyway. However, the candidate did not have a chance to make a speech. She has already lodged a complaint to the Regional Election Commission.
