Belarusian wins legal action in European Court of Human Rights

Valery Savyankou, 51, chairman of the Belarusian Youth Union in Lithuania, has won legal action against that country in the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.
Savyankou was awarded $5,500 in damages after judges found conditions in the Lukishki Detention Center equivalent to torture and derogatory treatment, Belfi reported.

 

Savyankou spent five years and ten months in the Lukishki jail for theft and illegal weapon possession.
