Belarusian citizen on board Russian ship detained in Senegal

There is a Belarusian citizen on board the ship Oleg Naidyonov, deputy head of the MFA press service Maria Vanshyna told BelaPAN. She referred to the information received from Russia.

 Diplomats know the Belarusian’s name but it will not be revealed “for humanitarian reasons”. As there is no Belarusian consulate in Senegal, our MFA is cooperating with its Russian colleagues. Belarus will try to free our compatriot, the MFA claimed.

Senegalese soldiers detained the Russian fishing vessel Oleg Naidyonov on January 4, Russian mass media report. It happened 46 miles away from the shore of Guinea-Bissau. It was convoyed to the port of Dakar. The authorities suspected the sailord of illegal fishing in Senegalese waters and are planning to fine the company that owns the ship for €600 thousands and confiscate the cargo. The crew are on board under police escort now.
