Belarusian builders lost $60 million due to devaluation of Russian rouble

The Belarusian construction industry lost $60 million due to the devaluation of the Russian rouble, deputy Minister of Architecture and Building Alyaksandr Sidarau said.

78% of the Belarusian construction materials export is sent to Russia, he said. Belarusian exporters did not reach the expected indexes of foreign-economic activity due to the economic default in Russia.

Belarusian goods have become too expensive because Belarus has to pay for energy carriers with dollars. Russian competitors pay in Russian roubles and their cost price is much lower, BELTA reports.

The economic crisis in Russia has not hit the construction industry only.  Belarusian meat producers have also suffered major losses.
