Belarus to set up nuclear security agency

Belarus is considering to establish a nuclear security unit withith the country's Ministry for Emergencies, the ministry's spokesman Vital Navicki told Belapan news agency. He said that proposals regarding the structure, fucntions, aims and tasks of the new department had already been filed with relevant government bodies for reviewal. The nuclear security department will be established only after Belarus officially announces its decision to build a nuclear power plant.

At the same time, Navicki noted that the Ministry for Emergency had already run a department to supervise safety at the industrial enterprises and nuclear energy sites. The latter deals with nuclear safety among other issues.
