Belarus reports increase in demand for gold

35,587 golden bricks with a total weight of 1153 kg were sold in Belarus in January-May 2008, four times up against the same period in 2007. The National Bank of Belarus explains that the population tends to use gold as one of the most profitable saving means, reports Belapan.

10-gm pieces were the most popular, with 9.625 bricks sold.

Only 110 kg of gold were sold back to the Central Bank by the population over the past three months.
