Belarus named as a repressive society

The international human rights watchdog Freedom House has released its annual comparative assessment of the state of political and civil rights around the world in 2007, reports Charter'97. According to the survey, 90 countries or 47 percent of the planet's population are free.
Belarus, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan are described as the most repressive societies in the world. The report also said that the state of political liberties in China, Venezuela, Pakistan, Iran and Russia deteriorated.


The Freedom House said Belarus is the country that holds political prisoners, violates the principle of the power division and infringes on the freedom of speech and the freedom of assembly.
