Ales Byalyatski nominated for Václav Havel award

Poland's Stefan Batory Foundation has come up with such initiative, reports BelSAT TV-channel.

The Václav Havel human rights award is given annually by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Councill of Europe in cooperation with Václav Havel
Library and the foundation "Charta 77". The aim of the award is to underline the exceptional activity of the civil society activists, who work in the sphere of human rights defense in Europe and outside it.

This year, the Václav Havel award replaced the award for the attempts to pursue human rights, established back in 2007. It was given by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe every two years. In 2009, it was awarded to the British organization  "Human Rights Watch", in 2011 - the Russian Committee against Tortures.

The winner will be announced in the end of September. The awarding ceremony will be held on September 30 in Strasbourg, at the opening of the autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The laureate will get a diploma, a figurine and EUR 60 thousand.
