Activists tried in Vileika for memorial crosses

The trial of pro-democracy activists who signed a statement protesting against the destruction of cross on the site of execution of Rastsislau Lapitski will take place on October 1 in Vileika. Popular Front members Aliaksei Siudak and Narkevich and United Civic Party member Maliarchuk will stand trial. Instead of an investigation, local officials proposed the police to take care of the participants of the "unauthorised meeting" -- that's how they described the installation of memorial crosses near Vileika in the village of Krasny Berazhok.

On September 1, the birthday of Rastsislau Lapitski (1928 — 1950), a hero of the anti-Soviet resistance, people simply laid flowers on the site of his execution and installed crosses. However, the crosses were destroyed shortly after.
