18 activist of legal centre “Vyasna” detained for three days in Belarus

Detentions of activists on the eve of “The European March” in Belarus continue. According to the legal centre “Vyasna”, 18 people got detained during the past three days in Belarus and this number is likely to increase. A member of the information department of “Vyasna” Syarzhuk informed ERB:

“They are mostly activists of civil movements, parties and young people. Only five people were detained in Minsk. The majority were detained in regions – Hrodna, Homel, Nyasvizh, Mazyr, Vitsebsk and Myuadzel.

If the detained are leaders they are accused of “hooliganism”, otherwise people are accused of distribution of stickers informing about the “The European March”.

The majority of potential participants of the action that will take place on October 14 (the authorities have allowed it) were sentenced to 5 or 10 days of detention. Protocols against four people have been drawn up but trials will take place later.
