14:34 Belarus lifts restrictions on tobacco imports

The government of Belarus has abolished the December 2001 regulation that restricted the import of tobacco products through temporary warehouses, according to the government's resolution posted on April 23 on the web site of the National Legal Information Center.  The abolishment of restrictions on the import of Russian goods through temporary warehouses (including excised goods) by April 1, 2007 was part of the bilateral trade and economic cooperation deal signed by the two countries in Minsk on March 23, 2007.

The deal also envisages the abolishment by October 1, 2007 of regulations that introduce quotas on the import of Russia-made tobacco products. In an earlier move, on March 3, 2007 Belarus lifted restrictions for the import of Russian beer through temporary warehouses, according to Interfax news agency.
