Youth activists detained in Brest for feeding homeless

Alexander Kazlianok and his girlfriend were on Sunday detained by policemen in Brest. The young couple was handing out free food (porridge and meat) in plastic plates to homeless people near a local church. The police officer seized the young man's passport. Today, the youngsters complained to the Brest branch of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee, chairman of the branch Valiantsin Lazarenkau told the European Radio for Belarus. Committee's lawyers will assist with filing a complaint to the prosecutor's office.

According to Valiantsin Lazarenkau, local pacifists has carried out this action in the past five years. On Sunday, they managed to feed 15 homeless people. The youngsters had a poster depicting a plane dropping food instead of bombs. In the view of the police, the action can be described as an unauthorized picket.
