Young Belarus bands to play together with Polish stars

The annual gig titled “Solidarity with Belarus” is to take place on March 22 in Warsaw. The concert became a tradition and takes place annually in Warsaw ahead or right after Belarus’ Independence Day on March 25. It is organized by the Poland-based initiative Free Belarus.

Initially, the concert was thought as a platform where Belarusian musicians, who are not allowed to perform in Belarus, can sing together with Polish artistes. But it soon became a popular entertainment event attended by from 5000 (in 2006) to 15000 (in 2008) Poles and Belarusians.

Apart from the musical program, short films that illustrate the political and social situation in Belarus are screened.

This year, the format of the event has already been outlined. Instead of the legends of the Belarusian rock, young bands will perform during the gig.

“We have a 100-percent confirmation that Belarusian bands Dali and Miod (Honey) will participate. They will play a full concert before the televised version for the audience that will come to the square. Afterwards, they will take part in the taped version together with Polish and Belarusian bands. We are also in talks with other new young Belarusian bands”, says Jas Wisniwski, the coordinator of this year’s gig.

As for Polish bands, Wisniwski explains that their list is being finalized. There are preliminary deals with musician like Lipinski, Bialewski, Natalia Przybysz, Tymon Tymanski, Adas Novak and others. All these artistes are associated in Poland with the independent music and were deliberately picked to take part in the concert.
