Will “Belsat” TV channel close down in September?

A satellite TV channel “Belsat” may close down in September if the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not allocate more money to it.
The head of the TV channel Agnieszka Romaszewska informed ERB about it.

“It all depends on the financing, but we are hoping we will not have to close the channel. However, there may be such a probability if it turns out that we lack financing”.

At the same time, Ms. Romaszewska noted that the exact sum of the needed financing was not clear.

“We drew up a budget for a certain sum and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs offered us three million zlotys less – that is 18 millions instead of 21. However, it is very hard for us to work using the 18 million zlotys. In connection with it we are continuing negotiations. I personally talked to Mr. Sikorski a few days ago. Chances are the Polish government may add some money”.

The head of “Belsat” also informed that the channel was looking for an opportunity to get financing in western European countries and the USA.
