Vladislav Baumgertner to remain in jail

The complaint of Baumgertner’s lawyers has not been satisfied and they are going to appeal the court's decision in the Supreme Court.

Uralkali CEO Vladislav Baumgertner was detained in Minsk after meeting Belarusian PM Mihail Myasnikovich on Monday, August 26. The Uralkali CEO did damage to Belarus’ state interests, the Investigation Committee said.  He has been accused of power abuse and is facing up to 10 years of imprisonment and confiscation of property.  The losses suffered by the Belarusian Potash Company reached $100 million, the Investigation Committee said. Baumgertner is in KGB prison now. 

Uralkali CEO may stand trial behind closed doors in Minsk, lawyer Dzmitry Harachka said it on Friday.

“Everything will be done according to the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus, there will be no special changes,” he told Interfax-West.

The investigation of Vladislav Baumgertner’s criminal case my take up to 1.5 years, Harachka noted.
