US Senate approves Attorney General with Belarus roots

The U.S. Senate approved Michael Mukasey as a new Attorney General in the 53:40 vote, reports Reuters. He served for 18 years as a federal judge and became known as a strong judge, passing verdicts in terrorism cases. Mukasey, 66 was proposed for the post by U.S. President George W. Bush in September 2007.

The 81st U.S. Attorney General has Belarusian roots. He was born in July 1941 in New York. His father was born and raised near the Belarusian city of Baranavichy and then emigrated to the United States, reports Charter'97.
