Ukraine's lawmakers block Tymoshenko in PM bid

The Ukrainian parliament, the Supreme Rada, on Tuesday, did not approve Yulia Tymoshenko as the country's prime minister. The Ukrainian official news agency UNIAN reports that 225 out 227 MPs voted in favor of Tymoshenko.
In order to become a prime minister, she should have received 226 votes. It is worth noting that one lawmaker from her bloc and one from the pro-president party, Olexander Omelchenko, voted against. The latter complained that his electronic voting card was out of order. The session was later adjourned for 30 minutes.

The opposition Party of the Regions, the Communist Party of Ukraine and Litvin's Bloc did not take part in the vote. The MPs also blocked a repeated poll for Mrs Tymoshenko's PM bid.
