Turkmen party with 'Russian girls' canceled

The club administration decided to cancel the party on October 21, when news websites published reports advertising the event. The reason for cancelation is said to be mass outrage of internet users.

This is what they told Euroradio in the club:

"The event is canceled. Thus, I see no point in trying to contact the organizers... The reason for cancelation is mass outrage in the internet. So, we decided to cancel the event in order to avoid incidents."

The reason for the mass outrage of internet users is that Turkmen students invited "Russian girls" to their party.

"Turkmen party is not just a closed party for the students from Turkmenistan, but the place where you can meet new friends, have a good time in your company, and celebrate the national holiday of Еurkmenistan - the Independence Day - among your people and dance the national dance "lezgрinka" together. The show any Turkmen student can only dream of is waiting for you! Only Turkmen students and Russian girls can come to the party," this is how the organizers advertised the event.

In the end, internet-forums and the party page in the vk.com social network were full of negative and, to put it politely, intolerant feedback in the address of the organizers and the future participants of the celebration. Closer to October 21, the administers closed the vk.com page for public view, but this step did not save the event from cancelation.

Employees of Zebra club say they could never imagine such a reaction. A similar event went peacefully last year. This year they decided to cancel it "to be on the safe side".

"You know, we had a Turkmen party here last year. There were no incidents. If we had known people would react like this, we wouldn't even start preparations," they say in the club.

It is yet to be known whether the Turkmen students will find another venue for the event in Vitsebsk. Cancelation of an event due to "mass outrage in the internet" is extremely rare in Belarus.
