Today is 90th anniversary of establishment of independence of BPR
Belarusians from all over the world are celebrating the 90th anniversary of the establishment of independence of the Belarusian People’s Republic on March 25.
The decision was taken by the BPR Council in Minsk before the dawn in the remote 1918. Yanka Statkevich said that the first sun beams appeared at that moment and somebody exclaimed: “The sun of the independent Belarus is rising!”.
However, it took a long and difficult way to acquire the real independence – more than 70 years had passed before the Republic of Belarus appeared on the political map of the world in 1991.
Let us note that the Day of Will, this is how the holiday of BPR independence is called, is not celebrated officially yet. However, state mass media have started being impartial while covering the history of the BPR for the first time this year.
A festive manifestation is planned in Minsk today; it is organized by democratic forces. People will gather in Yakub Kolas Square at 6 p.m. The authorities allowed gathering near the Academy of Sciences and walking in the direction of Bangalor Square.
