Syarhei Haidukevіch withdraws his candidature

It has turned out that his aim was collecting 100 thousand signatures instead of taking part in “the show” (to be updated). A devoted participant of all the previous presidential elections, the leader of the Liberal-Democratic Party Syarhei Haidukevich has stopped the work of his initiative group. The politician presented the corresponding information to the Central Election Commission on the morning of October 8.

"It was important that we demonstrated people’s attitude to our party to our members. People’s attitude was magnificent, we collected 100 thousand 150 signatures in 5 days, - said Syarhei Haidukevich in an interview with ERB. – That is why we have reached our goal at these elections and we are not going to continue participating in this show”.

Interestingly, Syarhei Haidukevich was going to be engaged in a serious struggle with Alyaksandr Lukashenka and with the opposition during the registration of his initiative group.

"It is essential that they should not unite with Lukashenka to oppose to me. Some people have already started saying that he is for independence, - said the politician a week ago. – I would not be surprised if they unite with Lukashenka against me. It will happen for sure! But I am satisfied. They will probably get 1.5% of votes. Let them do it! They want to organize a run-off. Let them do it for themselves. I will not tell you about those percents. Some claim they will get 51%, others – 50, still others – 30. Sum it up and you will get 240%. Where will they get so many people? I can tell you - I do not care about the administrative resource. I only rely on the Belarusian people. I am not going to unite with anyone – I have nobody to unite with. I am going to fight the current President. And it will be a full-scale struggle!”
By the way, Haidukevich was blessed in an Orthodox church before the registration of his group and the list of members of the initiative group was consecrated.
"I am Orthodox, I am a believer. I am a real Belarusian, a member of the gentry. My grandfather got his coat of arms in 1700, Andrzei Haidukevich. My ancestors taught me that you could not make you time come when you liked it. It will come but you have to wait for it. I do not know when it will happen. Otherwise, I would be an idle talker”.
An interview with Syarhei Haidukevich explaining the reasons for his decision coming soon on ERB’s website.
