Spain declaresCatalonian referendum unconstitutional
Spain's Constitutional Court rules that the referendum on the independence of Catalonia contradicts the country's constitution.
The Spanish Constitution forbids unilateral independence referendums in the Spanish regions, BBC reports.
Nevertheless, the decision of the Spanish Constitutional Court does not mean that the referendum will be forbidden. It only states that it should correspond to the country’s Constitution.
Catalonia has not reacted to the court’s decision yet.
