Smolensk teenagers catch swine flu in Mahileu

A group of 18 representatives of Smolensk Youth Olympic Reserve School took part in competitions in Mahileu.
When they returned to Smolensk it turned out that 6 children and 1 adult had caught an acute respiratory disease. Swine flu was found in three of them after laboratory tests.
"Flu caused by A/H1N1 09 was found in three of them”, - said the head of the epidemiologic control department of the Russian consumer control in Smolensk Region Galina Krutilina to ERB.

The group took part in competitions from October 19 till October 22. The first football players fell ill on October 26, on the fourth day after their return from Mahileu. The incubation period of A/H1N1 can reach 7 days, says Galina Krutilina.

"So it corresponds to the incubation period. We cannot say it for sure but looking at the development of the situation we can say that all of them fell ill in Mahileu”.

By the way, swine flu may be confirmed in the other four people. That is why they are also being treated for A/H1N1.
