September 8 – Day of Belarusian military glory

Today is the Day of Belarusian military glory. The army of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania that mostly consisted of Belarusians defeated a Moscow army that was thrice as big on this day in 1514.
The 30-thousand army of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania under the command of Hetman Konstanty Ostrogski defeated the 80-thousand Moscow army. Hetman Ostrogski used artillery concealed in the forest to shoot at the enemies for the first time.

The glorious victory was mentioned in the modern history of Belarus. A group of Belarusian soldiers pledged symbolic allegiance to the Republic of Belarus on September 8, 1992.

A festival of bards is organized in Krapivna field (the battle site) near Orsha every year.
