Seasonal duties imposed on imported tinned goods

The state concern “Beldzyarzhharchpram” has proposed the government to support local producers by increasing duties for imported goods. The head of the department of vegetables, fruit, vine and starch branches Maria Dainyak informed ERB about some details:

Maria Dainyak: “It is only a suggestion. It does not mean that the duties will be imposed. We also suggested that it should be seasonal duties to help our producers when they can satisfy the demand for, say green peas, in the republic. Moreover, the quality of our goods is not worse that that of imported goods.

That is why we would like to impose special duties for the period of purchases. Our enterprises are rather poor so they cannot pay for a good advertising campaign for their products”.

Unfortunately, none of the experts from “Beldzyarzhharchpram” is not able to explain why Belarusian good will lose to imported goods without these duties.
