Russian democrats detained for solidarity action with Belarusians

Activists of such organizations as “Youth Apple” and “Solidarity” were detained in Omsk (Russia) on the night of March 19. They organized an action in the framework of a European campaign “Let the Belarusian people speak!” Omsk activists Anton Zhabrun, Mihail Maglov and Andrei Yarmilov were detained during the action. They were delivered to a police office, deprived of access to the phone and put behind bars. At first policemen said they had not detained anyone and had not taken anyone to the police office. The detained were not allowed to talk to their lawyer either, reports “Charter-97”.
It was the fifth action of the kind conducted by the federation of liberal youth. 125 cities of the world situated on four continents supported it. The street action of “Young European Federalists” gathered young people who tied up statues’ mouths and took out banners with the inscription “Let the Belarusian people speak!”. As ERB has already informed, a similar action in support of independent journalists was organized in Belarus.

Similar actions have also been organized in Russia – in Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Omsk, Penza and Orenburg. International organizations are preparing their announcements in connection with the detention of the activists.
