Russia asks Belarus to stop transit of food

Rosselkhoznadzor asked Belarus to cancel all permits for the transit through Russia of foods transfered into Kazakhstan and other countries.

Also, the Russian agency asked Belarus to stop on 30 November clearance of consignments coming in transit to Kazakhstan and third countries. This measure, as reported by interfax.by, will be in place before issue of control is resolved by the competent authorities of Belarus.

The purpose of such measures on the part of Russia is to stop food deliveries to Russia from the countries that have come under the Russian embargo. In August, Russia banned the supply of food from the European Union, the USA, Canada and some others.

According to Rosselkhoznadzor, there are cases where such products are imported into Russia from Belarus. It was reported that although they are supposedly in transit to a third country, they are sold in Russia.
