Syarhei Kavalenka’s case to be considered by UN
The Vitsebsk political prisoner lodged a complaint to the UN Human Rights Committee before his arrest.
The activist would like to cancel his sentence pronounced for hoisting a white-red-white flag on Vitsebsk Christmas Tree, informs the human rights website “Viasna”.
Let us remind you that Kavalenka climbed the Christmas Tree in the centre of Vitsebsk on January 7, 2010 and attached the national flag to its top. He was sentenced to three years of restriction of liberty.
Syarhei Kavalenka thinks that his sentence is unfair. He complained to the Human Rights Committee after he had tried to appeal the sentence in Vitsebsk Regional Court and in the Supreme Court of Belarus.
Let us remind you that the Vitsebsker is accused of violation of the penal regime now. Kavalenka has gone on hunger-strike in jail in protest against the arrest.
