Stanіslau Shushkevіch nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

The politicians who signed Belavezha Accords together with Stanislau Shushkevich in 1991 have also been nominated for the Nobel Prize – former Ukrainian President Leanid Kravchuk and former Secretary of State of the Russian Federation Genadii Burbulis, informs Charter-97.

"2011 is the 20th anniversary of Belavezha Accords that announced the collapse of the Soviet Union and creation of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The act was decisive at the time when the world was anxiously expecting the Soviet Union to collapse knowing about its nuclear reserves and the high conflict potential in its regions. The peaceful creation of the CIS was the most import act of diplomacy that changed the geopolitical and military image of the world”, - is said in the letter sent to the Nobel Prize Committee.
