"People buy refrigerators delivered in the morning” (photo)

Belarusians are getting rid of Belarusian rubles and are emptying shop shelves.

The “Fifth Element” shop informs that people are buying washing-machines, TV-sets and refrigerators. The increased demand has been observed for two months.

“We have been changing prices every day since the dollar mess started. The TV-sets that used to cost 3 millions a month ago are 6 or 7 million rubles now”.

The network of shops “Silverado” has closed its shops until May 24 due to revaluation. It will be possible to buy household appliances only on the Internet until then. According to a shop assistant, the demand has not increased in commercial shops as much as it has increased in state shops.

“The demand has increased in “Soviet” shops and department stores because their prices are in rubles and they do not manage to change the prices quickly enough to catch up to the dollar exchange rate in the black market”.
The dollar exchange rate is 800 rubles in “Silverado” now. The employee says that we should go to the neighboring shop – “Radiotechnology” – almost all their goods have been sold out.

“Radiotechnology ” says that the prices have doubled recently. However, people are still ready to buy.

“Refrigerators, TV-sets, washing-machines, all the audio and video devices. They are buying Belarusian and Russian goods. They have bought almost everything this week. As soon as new refrigerators were delivered in the morning, people started buying and ticking”.

There are practically no LCD TV-sets in “Horizont”.
“We haven’t had anything for sale for two days. We sell only small TV-sets today. There are a lot of buyers. We asked them why they were queuing but they could not answer. They said that the others were queuing and they were doing the same thing”.

The shop assistants do not know when they will receive new goods and what their prices will be.

The situation in “Appliances and Life” is similar. There are people queuing in every department… people are waiting for … goods to arrive.

“They are buying everything: microwaves, vacuum cleaners, all household appliances, lawn-mowers. Goods are delivered at higher prices and people still buy them eagerly. There are no refrigerators at the moment”.

A shop assistant has confessed that they have been organizing a regular revaluation for three weeks.
