Obama urges to cancel World Ice Hockey championship in Belarus
The Belarus Democracy Act signed by the U.S. President imposes new sanctions on our country.
According to RIA Novosti, White House spokesman Jay Carney has informed about it.
The new act expands the list of Belarus officials subject to U.S. visa and financial sanctions to include those involved in the post-election crackdown. It also calls on the International Ice Hockey Federation to cancel its plan to hold the 2014 World Ice Hockey Championship in Minsk.
Let us remind you the sanctions bill was approved by the U.S. Senate in mid-December.
