Loss of independence predicted by growing number of Belarusians
42.9% of those polled in early 2013 forecast the loss of independence by Belarus against 11.1% in 2011
At the same
time, most Belarusians are ready to join the EU. If this question was put to a
referendum in our country tomorrow, the number of those who would have voted
"for" would surpass that of those who are "against". This
is according to a new study, which was presented in Minsk by the Belarusian
Institute for Strategic Studies.
The part of the population that stands for the integration with Russia does not
have a stable negative perception of the EU. They can support the European
vector "in a political and media context." Over 61% of respondents
would like to live together in a union with the EU and Russia.
According to Ejednevnik, Belarusians know very little about
the European initiatives. Many respondents believe that the EU imposed
sanctions against Belarus because our country pursues an independent policy.
Few mention the issue of political prisoners and human rights violations.
