Nike withdraws "Boston Massacre" T-shirts from US shops
The T-shirts were printed in honour of the New York Yankees baseball team over Boston Red Sox in 1978 and 2006.
After the
blast in Boston last week, the company decided not to sell the T-shirts that
may awake disputable associations in the buyers. The shirts will be removed
from both retail and on-line sale, according to the world news agencies.
The triumphant victories of the New York Yankees over the Red Sox in 1978 and
2006 came into history of the American baseball as the "First Boston
Massacre" and the "Second Boston Massacre". The name was given
on the analogy with the mass killings of Boston residents by the British army
in 1770.
Besides, this is not the first time when tragic events force Nike to give up
their advertising strategies. Previously, the company had to refuse from an
advertising poster showing runner Oskar
Pistorius saying "I Am the Bullet in the Chamber". It
happened after the Paralympics star got under trial for killing his girlfriend,
top model Reeva Steenkamp.
