Minsk wants talks with the West, no pressure for democratization

The negotiations might help to solve the contradictions between the official Minsk and the Western countries, MFA Spokesman Andrey Savinykh told this at a briefing for journalists on Thursday.

Commenting on the claims of the Belarusian side he pointed to "the double standards used to evaluate the situation in this country". He also mentioned that the West and Belarus had different approaches as for how the civil society in Belarus should be developed. According to Savinykh, the government in Belarus and the EU have common positions with regard to "understanding the need for a full-fledged civil society, democratic traditions and institutions". However, Belarus does not want to be pressed with democratization, reports Interfax-West news agency.
