Lithuanian Minister of Justice promises to help Ales Byalyatski

Let us remind you that MPs discussed the fact that Lithuania had presented information about Belarusian opposition members’ banking accounts to the Belarusian authorities.

The meeting took almost three hours, informs BelaPAN. Representatives of the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, head of the State Tax Inspectorate Modestas Kaseliauskas, officials from the General Prosecutor’s Office and MPs took part in it.

The Minister of Justice expressed regret about Ales Byalyatski’s issue and promised “to help persecuted opposition members”. At the same time he noted that he did not think about his own or some of his subordinates’ responsibility for presenting the information to the Belarusian authorities. According to him, it is too early to blame someone and “the investigation will reveal everything”.
