EU's representative to meet with HR defenders and officials in Minsk

Head of the European Commission's Unit for Relations with Russia as well as the acting director for Eastern Europe, Southern Caucasus, and Central Asia, in the Commission's Directorate-General for External Relations and OSCE is going to "establish the European dialogue on the modernization issues with representatives of the civil society and the political opposition".

Wiegand plans to meet with human rights defenders, relatives of political prisoners, employees of the diplomatic corpus and representatives of the Government". This will provide an opportunity "to make an overall estimation of the current relations between Belarus and the EU and name the issues that the EU is concerned about".

Gunnar Wiegand will stay in Minsk till February 10, informs BelaPAN.
